Revelations
A legislator from the People’s Force party, Juliana O’Neal, expressed her reaction on Wednesday to statements made by the former director of the National Institute of Land Transport and Traffic (Intrant), Hugo Beras. He claimed that the contract for managing the traffic lights network in Greater Santo Domingo between the institution and Transcore Latam is a result of failures in the State’s control systems.
“I believe that this is an accusation that should be taken into account, that an investigation should be carried out, because I am sure that if it were a person from a different political organization, there would most likely be some legal procedure at the moment to summon them for questioning, or an investigation; or even, perhaps, to make a statement about it,” affirmed the lawmaker when asked about the issue at the National Congress.
O’Neal argued that “it should be requested that these officials explain what happened in that case.” She also questioned why Beras took so long to break his silence and defend himself.
“It is serious that he did not say it before, because he should have said it from the beginning, and I am not really defending any of the parties, but I understand that the legal instruments are there. Why did it take so long? People were wondering what happened with that case, that they had not heard anything about it again. In other words, if Hugo did not speak out today, it was very likely that it would be forgotten,” she stated.
Evidence
It is worth noting that the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for the Prosecution of Administrative Corruption (PEPCA) summoned José Ángel Gómez Canaán (Jochi Gómez), president of Transcore Latam, SRL, for interrogation this afternoon regarding the contract between the company and Intrant.
According to the information obtained, Jochi Gómez, accompanied by his lawyer, was required to be present at 3:00 p.m. on the fourth floor of the building housing the Prosecutor’s Office and the Supreme Court of Justice as part of the investigative proceedings.
